Getting the fish of one's dreams takes
a lot of time and luck. We have on hand several tours and expeditions
designed to gratify your wish for good fishing in our part of the world.
The following expeditions may help you prepare for your Himalayan fishing
trip. To help you choose the kind of tour you want, below are a few
Fixed Departure programmes. Choose from our River Expeditions or Overland
Expeditions depending upon your inclination or budget:
2 or 4 anglers.
Jeep and raft.
Defiining the Western border of Nepal with India, the Kali River is
one of the most scenic and beautiful rivers in the Himalayas and has
a good population of wild golden mahseer and snow trout. After an overnight
trip to the railhead, we travel by road to the put in point and fish
some of the most productive stretches of the river. These are spots
and areas that we've been fishing for ages now and have yielded us some
superlative fishing.
Fishing: 10-20 days
Non-fishing: 3 days
2 or 4 anglers.
Jeep and raft.
Combine a springfed and a snowfed river and you get a fishing tour second
to none in terms of technique and character of fishing. The Saryu River
offers some fantastic opportunities for fly fishing in crystal waters
requiring utmost finesse and perseverance with fabulous rewards everytime
one gets into a fish. The Kali is home to some of the biggest populations
of wild mahseer and spinning brings the best bags.
Fishing: 10-20 days
Non-fishing: 5 days
2 or 4 anglers.
Jeep and raft.
The Western Ramganga outside Corbett Tiger Reserve is one of the last
bastions of the golden and redfin mahseers along with some serious goonch
catfish. The river outside the Park flows through some 40kms of the
most scenic and unspoilt stretches which harbour some superlative specimen
fish that have to be approached by boats.
Fishing: 10-14 days
Non-fishing: 3-5 days
2 or 4 pax.
Jeep and raft.
For the naturalists and birders, we have on offer a scenic river tour
to approach riverine birds from small boats with camping along unfrequented
campsites. An experienced naturalist will accompany each group and each
tour is a small, self contained expedition.
Non-fishing: 2 days
For 2 or 4 anglers. Jeep, mule, trek.
Some locations have a seasonal but long window of fishing opportunities.
Our Stakeouts are designed for exactly such situations. Stakeouts involve
approaching a remote location by overland means and camping for extended
periods at the most favourable spots for as long as the migration run
lasts. For conservation and sporting purposes, we do not target the
fish before the monsoons as they get ready to spawn but after the monsoons
when they have finished spawning runs. Groups of fish descend at irregular
intervals making for some outstanding sport. Expect some blank days
as the pods of fish move down but arm-tiring game when the fish are
'on'.
After a 4 hour trek from the roadhead, we camp the the confluence of
the Ladhya River with the Kali and wait for the fish to start descending.
In the vicinity are the villages where Jim Corbett killed the famous
man-eating tiger of Chuka. Non-anglers can take scenic walks or follow
Corbett's trail along with our guides.
Fishing only.
Long session-14-20 days
Short session- 10-14 days
A session at a place where anglers rarely venture due to a tough road
approach or a raft approach. The confluence of the Lohavati River is
a good one at the right time but the arm-wrenchers descend from the
Surnaya River from Nepal. If the first confluence isn't fishing well,
we shift camp to opposite the Surnaya Confluence.
Fishing only.
Long session-14-20 days
Short session- 10-14 days
Two popular spots in one tour with a magnificent springfed river to
fish. Rameshwar is the confluence of the Saryu and Eastern Ramganga,
18kms above the Saryu-Kali confluence. We have found the best way to
fish these sessions is to move down with the fish. Some bits are approachable
by road, others by trekking. Small boats are available to reach untrekkable
spots with overnigh camping in pup-tents for the early morning sessions.
Fishing only.

Make sure you have at least 10 fishing days to be able to do any place
justice. We won't take you to places where we don't know how to catch
fish and Indian fish are tough to catch anyway. At the right time and
right place a 7 day trip can make everyone happy but outside these times
it is a matter of looking forward to a long fishing holiday.
Choose your tour and we'll advise the best times and kit to land up
with. The cold weather is usually good for extended bait fishing sessions
while the spring and post-monsoon times best for fast and furious fun
while spinning for mahseer.
Peak fishing times are October-November, February-March and May-June.
Outside of these times, one should look forward to a great fishing holiday.
Base Camps at Pancheshwar and Ramganga Valley have most comforts, with
twin/double bedded tents and standard linen. Expeditions fish out of
pup tents and sleeping bags over air-mats. Toilets are dry-pit types
in accordance with Reserved Forest regulations. Depending upon how important
comforts are to you, we have the accommodation. This may also help you
choose the trip you'd prefer. Base Camps require advance reservation,
expeditions can be executed at relatively shorter notice.
If you intend to return then short visits
to several venues can help you make up your mind as to your place of
tryst with the great one. Or if you settle for a particular kind of
fishing or should a river appeal to you, you can stay a month and savour
each day of time spent in a small part of heaven that is Uttaranchal.
You could take a shortcut and book a no holds barred, long-term exped
with us instead. Of course we'll advise you as to the best time to land
up for this.
